Why do you need my bank’s username and password?

Linking your bank accounts to Billy’s dashboard allows us to import your bank transactions automatically so you can reconcile your books without the need to import a CSV file. We do not store any of your credentials, rather we rely on a world-class data aggregator called Yodlee which is trusted by millions of users world-wide.

Is it safe to give you my bank’s username/password?

Yes. We link your accounts using the Yodlee platform. Yodlee, a publicly traded company, is the industry leader, with more than 18 years of experience securely pulling account info from various financial institutions. What is the security encryption you use?

Yodlee, our data partner, maintains a bank level security and is audited like a bank. The credentials stored are hardware encrypted using FIPS 140-2 level 2 HSM and the keys used for encryption cannot be accessed by anyone, including Yodlee employees. However, customers have the ability to unregister/delete a user or delete a provider account (user’s provider credentials) via an API that deletes all sensitive information of the user.

Does this give Billy access to my bank account ID and password?

Not at all. When you connect your bank account, we pass your username and password directly to Yodlee. They’re never stored on our internal systems. They’re only stored on the Yodlee platform so that it can fetch the account transaction data. This also means that we can’t transfer money without your permission or make any changes to your account. How can I do my part to keep my account information safe on Billy?

Here are a few things we recommend for keeping your info safe — with us, and in general. For starters, make your password tough to guess. Mix up numbers, letters and special characters when you can. Make sure you never share it with anybody. And never reuse your Billy account password on any other site. We also recommend using virus protection and firewalls. Make sure you never install programs from unfamiliar people or companies, or from suspicious emails. For any programs you install, apply all security updates. These steps will help protect you against identity theft and phishing attempts.

Can I unlink accounts from Billy?

Yes, you can unlink your accounts at any time right inside the Billy Bank Accounts module.
